Brunch, a grand dinner, a picnic, afternoon tea or a simple lunch, spring is the best of seasons for creating pretty tables full of flowers and colour. When we dreamed up nähen, we wanted to offer table linen that could serve for great occasions but that could just as easily brighten a perfectly ordinary table for a simple meal, embroidered with your initials or the name of your holiday house.

We had a head full of inspiring images, of ideas for creating lovely tables, and in spring above all, our favourite season. So here are a few pictures and good ideas that make you want to linger for hours around the garden table eating fresh asparagus and a few strawberries.

A sprig of herbs on every napkin
You can use rosemary, thyme, oregano... any herb that dries rather than wilts (basil, for example, would go limp after a few hours)

A bunch of mimosa to bring sunshine to the room or the table The colour of mimosa is enough on its own to decorate a space and light the whole thing up! What is more, you can use it in a thousand ways: in large bunches, in small sprigs on the table, as a single branch in a tall vase...

A gathering of little pots along the table runner
Gather little pots of cactus together, or dream up mini bunches of flowers in brighter colours, to be set at random along the table runner: it will brighten the whole length!

Herbs from the garden in glass bottles
It could not be simpler: gather up weeds or other wild grasses from the garden and arrange them in glass bottles you have saved. Here too, gathering them together gives that quietly sophisticated, refined feel without seeming to try.

Plain linen and flowers in contrasting colours
Bring your table linen together, choosing everything in shades of blue for instance, and add contrasting colours with lovely bunches of flowers.

At nähen we hunt down a great many of our inspirations on Pinterest. You can see it all here!
